TOWEL TRIO HANGERS
Sherry Titzer - http://www.atimetostitch.com

HOW TO instructions for the towel:  Towel How To
Printing instructions: Click here

Supplies:
Cotton fabric (cut 1" bigger than design so there is 1/2" clearance on all sides)
Pellon Thermolam batting (cut 1" bigger so there is 1/2" clearance on all sides)
The Pellon Thermolam looks like thick cushy white felt.
Pellon Stitch 'n Tear stabilizer (for towel designs)
Aqua Magic or Vilene wash away stabilizer (fit your hoop)
4 1/2" Popsicle sticks (YES! a popsicle stick!)
1/2" button to match fabric you are using for the hanger (for handle hanger)

Source for Supplies:
Pellon Thermaloam:  Wal-mart, JoAnn's Fabric & Hancock Fabrics
Vilene:  Order online here: http://www.pointetopointe.com/site/525331/product/DO102
Towels:  The towels in Set 1 were purchased from www.allaboutblanks.com
The towels in Set 2 & Xmas trios were purchased at Wal-mart.
4 1/2" popsicle sticks -  Forster premium "craft sticks" at Wal-mart - 150 sticks in pkg. (4 1/2" long x 3/8" wide)

NOTE:  See instructions for lengthening the towel hangers for wider stove handles at the bottom of this page!

Step 1 - Sew the first color in the design on the vilene/aqua magic only. Step 2 - Remove hoop and flip it over.  Place fabric sprayed with adhesive on the bottom side of the hoop over the outline centered. Place hoop back on machine.
Step 3 - Sew next color in design - this secures the fabric placed under the hoop & stitches the small buttonhole. Step 4 - Spray thermolam with adhesive spray & place the  fabric on top, smooth it down. Center over the outline.
Step 5 - The next color in the design secures the fabric and thermolam in the hoop. Step 6 - Remove hoop & flip over. Trim the fabric close to the outline but do not cut away the vilene. Trim the little opening too!
Step 6 continued - Flip hoop over on right side & trim the  fabric & thermolam close to the stitches but leave the vilene in place. Trim the fabric & batting in the little opening too! Step 7 - Place hoop back on machine.  The next color is the satin stitched edges and the buttonhole.
Step 8 - Stitch rest of design using color order in text file. Step 9 - When finished, remove hoop, turn upside down.
Step 10 - It is easier to trim with hoop flipped over!  Trim the design from the stabilizer staying about 1/16" away from the satin stitched edges. Step 11 - Run a warm rag along the the satin stitched edges to dissolve the remaining wash away stabilizer.
Step 12 - Cut a slit in the back buttonhole (do not cut into the thermolam) and slide a 4 1/2" long popsicle stick into the opening!  The popsicle stick will keep the hanger from sagging with the weight of the towel.  Sew a 1/2" button on the wrong side of the hanger about 1/2" from the top and you are finished!

Lengthening the Towel Hangers
For those who are using the smaller handles (5x7 hoops) or for those who have wide stove handles!
1. Cut piece of 1/2" wide elastic 3-4" long & mark the center. 2. Sew your button onto the elastic at the center mark.
3. Fold the elastic in half so that the button is at the top and sew it to the top of the hanger on the back side. 4. Here's what it looks like flipped upside down.
The elastic will stretch to fit almost any size oven handle.

5. How the hanger looks with the elastic from the back side. 6. The finished towel hanger with the elastic extension!
You can't even tell the elastic is there!
